Ravi Bains responds to the Spending Review and social care funding

The Chancellor has announced an additional £1.5bn funding for social care in the latest Spending Review. Moreover, the existing adult social care grants announced in the previous Autumn Statement, worth £2.5 billion, will roll over for one more year.

Here, Ravi responds to the latest funding announcement:

“I’m pleased that the government has announced additional funding for the social care sector. However, this announcement only covers FY2020-21, and a long-term, sustainable solution is still needed to address systematic challenges faced by the sector.”
