Ravi Bains responds to Chancellor’s pledge to increase NLW to £10.50

With Chancellor Sajid Javid pledging to raise the National Living Wage to £10.50, here, Ravi Bains reacts to the news:

Ravi Bains, Chief Executive of homecare provider Grosvenor Health & Social Care, said:

“This announcement is welcome news to the carers who work tirelessly to deliver high quality care to the most vulnerable in our society and it is only right that they are paid a better wage for their commitment and efforts.

“However, while this pledge is a step in the right direction, the sector needs more financial support right now. This government needs to commit to a long-term funding solution which will allow local authorities to put what they need in place to ensure providers can indeed pay such wages.

“Any long-term funding solution must therefore include continued investment in the workforce, particularly in paying carers an appropriate wage for the skilled work they do.”
